Molly Wright Steenson serves on the Board of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce Minnesota (SACC-MN), where she is dedicated to strengthening cultural and business relationships between Sweden and the Upper Midwest through innovation, education, and international collaboration.
Molly is the President and CEO of the American Swedish Institute (ASI) and serves as the Honorary Consul of Sweden for Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska. Through these leadership roles, she works to deepen the longstanding relationship between Sweden and the region by fostering cultural exchange, business engagement, and community partnerships.
Before joining ASI in 2023, Molly built a distinguished career spanning academia, technology, and design. She spent more than a decade in Silicon Valley during the dot-com era and later held faculty and executive leadership positions at Carnegie Mellon University, where she served as Vice Provost for Faculty, Senior Associate Dean for Research in the College of Fine Arts, and the K&L Gates Associate Professor of Ethics and Computational Technologies. She also served as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, focusing on journalism, communication, and technology.
An internationally recognized scholar, Molly's research explores the intersection of architecture, artificial intelligence, computation, and design. She is the author of Architectural Intelligence: How Designers & Architects Created the Digital Landscape (MIT Press, 2017), a widely recognized work examining how design has shaped the evolution of modern technology.
Molly earned her Ph.D. in Architecture from Princeton University and a Master of Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture. Throughout her career, she has championed interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and ethical leadership.
As a member of the SACC-MN Board, Molly brings a unique perspective that bridges business, technology, culture, and education. Her leadership helps advance SACC-MN's mission of strengthening trade, commerce, and investment between Sweden and the Upper Midwest while fostering meaningful connections across industries and communities.
